Can you draw this?
Cripple Creek Fairies need you to pick up a pencil for their website
The Neckers are back in action after waiting for drummer Brendan Tincher to return from tour as the "out-of-town drummer" for Chixdiggit. After playing in Europe, Australia, Thailand, Japan and the U.S., Tincher is back and ready to help The Neckers raise some money to finish their new CD. The 11 new tracks (titled Love And Inflection) were recorded by The Spitfires’ front man Jay Solyom. You can help the project come out much sooner by paying your cover charge on March 9th at Broken City, March 17th at Weeds (all-ages), and March 25th at The Palomino. Personally, I think I could happily watch The Neckers play three times in one month. Even if just to look at Brendan Tincher’s "Thai-tan."

Rum Runner will be doing up St. Paddy’s Day (March 17th) once again, complete with accordion, tin whistle, mandolin and banjo, at The Ship and Anchor Pub. As per usual for this holiday, they will be playing Pogues covers. Rum Runner really, really like The Pogues. A lot. You heard it here first. There will be special guests and fancy suits and maybe even some beer, if the Ship still does that – I haven’t been there in awhile.

The Cripple Creek Fairies have sent out a call for submissions for the comic’s page of their website.

"We're not picky, draw something with a charcoal pencil clenched in your butt cheeks, we'll take it," assures CCF member Les Izmoore.

So far the page consists predominantly of three panel jokes featuring caricatures of the band but they hope to have it blossom into a monthly serial strip web page.

"Part of our whole theme has been that we're writing the soundtrack to our own animated show," says Izmoore.

Hey, has anyone else noticed that there are an unhealthy number of Calgary bands whose band members’ names sound like they could be puns?

CCF has already released an EP, The Fist, that includes in its packaging a full comic book about the band, penned by Tim Hueskin (the guy who does all of those great Broken City posters).

If you know how to draw an aviator cap, you’re halfway there – throw in some swear words in bubbles and presto! Check out catch-and-release.org/ccf for more details.
