Now that Valentine's Day has passed, some couples will retreat to that comfort zone of quality time, consisting of watching episodes of Lost and American Idol on the couch.

Every February I wonder who Valentine's Day is for. It's certainly not for new lovers, who need no excuse to show the other how much they care. I'm not really convinced it's for grade school children to exchange cards, resulting in a poor excuse for a popularity contest. And I've seen the dining dead out for dinner on Valentine's Day enough times to know they sure as hell don't care.

If your Valentine's Day was less than thrilling, might I suggest a weekend getaway in March for a real reason to be sleepless in Seattle? The Erotic Art Festival.

At seattleerotic.org, you'll find all the details on the festival, which takes place March 24 to 26. A weekend pass will run you around $30 US, while specific talks, workshops or private fine art auction events have individual prices ranging from $20 to $50 US. The event is produced through Seattle's Sex Positive Community Centre with a mandate to "promote freedom of sexuality, speech and creativity through the erotic expression of fine art." Last year’s attendance was 4,000 and more than 300 works were featured. In addition to showcasing artwork, the 2006 festival kicks off with a Deities of Eros Costume Gala and a Performance Art Party. The website offers video from last year’s show and a gallery of past works ranging from suggestive to graphic.

With the tag line "Own Your Pleasure," there’s bound (or gagged) to be something for everyone and every taste.
