The Best of the Beta Band
EMI

· The best of the Beta.

One of the U.K.’s most innovative and experimental groups in recent years, the Beta Band spent much of their eight-year tenure as planetary priests – marrying the simple strum and chime of acoustic instruments with enchanting space-strobe like loops and samples. While this approach was enough to set the band apart from its prototypical peers, it wasn’t without its sonic meanderings (their self-titled second album was a colossal mess). It seemed that the band finally found a cohesive blend on its final and ironically titled, Heroes to Zeroes, but in its making, bled the palette dry. What followed was The Best of the Beta Band double-disc offering 16 tracks of their strongest studio material including, ‘Dry the Rain," "Human Being," and the infectious synth-driven "Easy." A live recording of their final show in London will tantalize a few fanatics, but will unlikely garner much attention elsewhere.
