For a Decade of Sin: 11 Years of Bloodshot Records
Bloodshot

· Thank the good Lord for Bloodshot Records.

A two-disc collection of some of the best songwriting over the last 10 years, For a Decade of Sin is a shining light in the grungy, beer-stained nightclub of anniversary compilations. Mind you, all of the artists included here would be totally comfortable in the aforementioned venue.

This album looks great, with liner notes as irreverent as the label itself. Staying power is a tremendous feat for any independent, particularly now, and the variety of artists that Bloodshot has befriended and recorded over the years is impressive. The 42-song roster on this anthology includes a quiet side, with performers like Richard Buckner and Sally Timms, the bang and twang of The Meat Purveyors and the Waco Brothers and punk rock brethren of Bobby Bare Jr., John Doe and Nine Pound Hammer.

Decade of Sin will rope you in, if you let it. And you should, for it is both the perfect introduction and summation of a cool label that has helped keep alt- country alive and shit-kicking for so long.
