RANDY
Randy The Band
Fat Wreck Chords
· Straight-up Swedish pop-punk with high singalong potential.
On their sixth full-length, Randy have combined their love for The Ramones, Joe Strummer and the political grit of East Coast punk with the undeniably sunny charm of So-Cal pop punk into a mostly lighthearted 14-track romp.
The first half of the album has the quartet crooning about grumpy girls on "Bahnhof Zoo," suggesting "Molotov rocktails" on "Red Banner Rockers" and tackling popularity on "Punk Rock High" with such effervescence it makes for an odd lyrical transition when the subject matter of songs migrates towards the government, religion, bourgeoisie and insanity. They sound so darn boppy, upbeat and pumped about life in general, the tracks with pseudo-political or socio-cultural statements stick out beside the tongue-in-cheek lyrical style and content of the previous tracks. However, whether fluffy or feisty, the whole album is tightly produced and enjoyable.
