Avoiding wine and cheese and assholes
If I had to list what was bookmarked in my "favourites" file, it would be only slightly embarrassing. It's mostly a mix of nerd with a smattering of culture and a hint of flat-out dork. Most of my gems are in a rather broad file labelled "art" – the following three keep me coming back for more.

Most of the time I'm so behind in my required reading that keeping up with comics and graphic novels becomes a near impossibility. So, I let Christopher Butcher of comics212.net do all the work for me. As a co-founder of the Toronto Comics Arts Festival, you know he's got street cred. Here you'll find a wealth of resources on artists, events and enough links to entertain comic nerds for days.

For art events that don't catch the media's fickle eye, I turn to instantcoffee.org. The content on the site is sporadic, but includes some interesting ideas on curating, art and politics as well as art world assholes. The best part about the site is the newsletter subscription based on region to keep you in the loop for upcoming shows and events. Submissions for content and/or events is encouraged, so you can get the word out about your own event as well.

Avoid the wine and cheese of the art opening by visiting an online art show at 7deadlysinners.typepad.com. The 7 Deadly Sinners are a collection of artists from California, Calgary, Seattle and Vancouver. Their first online show went up on January 23 and features a Sea Monkey tribute. Their blogs are a collection of ideas for upcoming shows, works in progress and commentary on current events. Don’t miss Kipling West’s homage to the cyclops kitten of Internet fame.
