SADAT X
Experience & Education
Female Fun

· What happens when you’re bored of education.

A lot of fans were probably disappointed to hear how Sadat X spent his Christmas. The former Brand Nubian, who’s also spent time as a Grade 6 teacher and basketball coach, was arrested for allegedly waving a gun at a crowd of teens and threatening to "kill everybody." Maybe an artist’s personal life should be kept separate from their output, but when you’re pushing an album called Experience and Education, it does seem a bit ironic.

As for the output, it’s about as consistent as Sadat’s temper (allegedly). His stilted delivery does no favours to the soulful production, holding back when he really should be riding the beat. "Back To New York" doesn’t even boast the production, just a few roughnecks shouting their New York pride. Lyrically, things improve on more conscious tracks like "The Daily News," but even there, Sadat doesn’t really say anything – he’s describing the world but not commenting on it.

Experience isn’t without its moments, it just isn’t entirely admirable. Like Sadat himself, sometimes you’re impressed, others you just shake your head and wonder "what were you thinking?"
