The charm of the photo booth
I'm not particularly fond of having my picture taken. I was queen of the retakes throughout my grade school career, and adulthood has left me equally shy of the camera. The only time it ever seemed acceptable to celebrate a poor photo was when it was taken in a photobooth. With a choice of blinding orange or boiled blue curtain, it seemed like the results were destined to be laughable, horrifying or downright puzzling.

In addition to marking an event in time, the magic of the photobooth was that it offered a private haven in a public space. The experience was enhanced by the booth's enticements – the background choice, the outside decor with promises of quick results and four poses, and how many friends you could pack into that tiny space.

It seems the photobooth is in vogue again, with appearances ranging from various media events to the must-have activity at weddings. However, at

photobooth.net, you’ll understand why the nostalgia of the photobooth is more than a passing trend. The creators, Tim and Brian, have set their sights on providing an online resource of all things photobooth. This includes locations, art-related work and projects, appearances in movies and television, books, a gallery of images inside and outside the booth, discussion forums, information on renting a booth of your own and coverage of past International Photobooth Conventions (since 1999).

So next time you’re wandering some suburban mall that’s seen better days, look for that little slice of childhood in that dusty booth sandwiched between the fire exit and empty jewelry store.
