CITY AND COLOUR
Sometimes
Dine Alone

· Debut solo album from Alexisonfire guitarist Dallas Green’s side-project.

The simple yet effective melodies on the album Sometimes, chronicle past tours, heartaches and woes, friendships and yearning alongside. The culmination of a decade’s worth of solo material, the album showcases Dallas Green’s richly soothing vocals and open text-book lyrical style. A departure from the aggressive melodies his day job requires, operating as City and Colour provides a platform for the tattooed skateboarder to use an acoustic guitar as his aural weapon.

It’s no surprise that Green cites Jeff Buckley as an inspiration and the vocal and songwriting similarities are evident, but Green’s brand of intensely personal folk-emo rock has a stronger, raw, visceral feel that complements the gentle elegance of his voice. Green is more nonchalant and less slick than Dashboard Confessional, a stripped-down model of mellow Get Up Kids work. At times the harmonies may have added texture and depth, but the combination of fierceness and vulnerability Green manages to concoct easily commands enough attention.
