THE LIVING BLUE
Fire, Blood, Water
Minty Fresh

· Illinois garage-rock band goes for a bit of a psych out.

One of the best things about The Living Blue is that they sound like a post-millennium reflection of ’90s indie rock band Eleventh Dream Day. If the reference is a touch too obscure, imagine The Pixies with a less aggressive front man and a commitment to roots rock. The Living End don’t deal in the loud-quiet-loud theatrics of The Pixies, but they are solid purveyors of aggressive garage rock, and with their open chords and rockabilly bass, they construct convincing road trip anthems with equal parts guitar acrobatics and melody.

Like all good garage bands, The Living Blue take a small detour to their psychedelic side, but it never derails the momentum of Fire, Blood, Water. The Living Blue aren’t terribly original, but like all good roadsters, they are well-built and fun to ride.
