Salif Keita
M’ Bemba
EMI

· Like a beautiful painting for your stereo.

Recorded at Wanda studio in Bamako, Mali in February of 2005 and at Studios Ferber in Paris, France between March and June of 2005, M’ Bemba represents the perfect symbiosis of traditional expressions of African music and the utilization of modern recording technology. Ever conscious of paying tribute to his Mande roots, Salif "the Golden Voice of Mali" Keita skilfully counterbalances the polished presentation of his new album by preserving the original acoustic structures of the 10 tracks that comprise M’Bemba.

Backed by his regular retinue of players, including guitarist Kante Manfila and percussionist Mino Cinelu, and accompanied by a chorus of female singers, bandleader Keita approaches each song as a story that deserves individual attention and care in its telling. Featuring dazzling instrumentation and outstanding vocals, M’Bemba distinguishes itself amongst Keita’s often melancholy body of work with its decidedly optimistic and upbeat character.
