CORDUROY KID
The Sleep Project
Old Sofa Records

· This Vancouver musician recently had a song featured on the Bravo TV series Godivas.

With The Sleep Project, Shawn Hall (the Corduroy Kid) has attempted to provide a soundtrack to an entire evening. As a concept album it only half works throughout the album’s 10 tracks. Kicking off with the loud and infectiously eclectic dance-friendly "People Sea," Hall shifts genres with each song, moving from soul to funk-influenced electronica, and at one point even re-envisioning The Smiths as an early-1980s synth-pop band on the surprisingly catchy "Must Be The Season." Unfortunately, the end result is not the seamlessly sublime series of moods that Hall is hoping for, but rather a sampling of creativity from a DJ that hasn’t quite found a groove to call his own.
