Un Joli Mix Pour Toi
(Eskimo Records)
· Digging deep into the musical vault.
Disco balls glitter deep in the Laurentian night air at the hands of Doug 1 and P-Thugg. The unlikely Montreal duo Doug 1 is a Jewish grad student at Columbia, while P-Thugg is of Arabic descent are making quite a name for themselves with their resurrected 80s funk classics. Digging deep into the vaults, they reveal a serious love of funk, unearthing the likes of Sharon Redds "Beat the Street"(1982), and the original space cowboy, Michael Jonzon, designed for fans eagerly anticipating their next album. For middling funk fans though, this compilation might push a bit too far, as there is no remixing to temper or update sounds. Instead, listeners are treated to a rare opportunity to dim the lights, strap on the platforms, and pretend to be one of the glitterati of La Belle Province.
