STACEY EARLE

· Stacey Earle is given sole credit for this album, but it really is a collaborative effort with her musical partner and husband Mark Stewart.
You would have to search a long time to find a musician as sweet and genuine as Stacey Earle. The aw-shucks personality that wins over audiences at her live concerts shines through here the fact that she is also an accomplished songwriter is the icing on the cake.
The subject matter, like most of the songs themselves, is fairly standard. There are the personal-relationship songs, an antiwar song, an a capella gospel number and so on. Most are pleasant but ultimately forgettable. A few songs stand out: "I Dont Wanna Have To Run" a romantic tune with a sound reminiscent of the Wilco-Billy Bragg Mermaid Avenue collaboration and "When I Walk Alone" a piano-backed plea for forgiveness that could do double duty as a gospel number and an apology to ones parents for all the trouble you put them through when you were younger.
