DJ Kicks
K7!

· Annie kicks it old school.

K7!’s DJ Kicks series continues to roll along, inviting Swedish pop star Annie Lillia Berge-Strand to mix the likes of Le Tigre, Bow Wow Wow, and Mu in a lighthearted dance floor romp. Opening with Toy’s candy-coated delight "Rabbit Pushing Mover," a closer look reveals judicious track selection, with Alan Vega of 1970s art-punk combo Suicide and his Elvis-tribute "Jukebox Babe" leading into Junior Sanchez’s remix of Le Tigre’s "Nanny Nanny Boo Boo." Annie has perhaps found one of the few upbeat songs of Vega’s and paired it with the sly political work of Le Tigre. Death From Above 1979’s "Black History Month" receives similar treatment, tailing into Motuvi: Tuntematon’s "1939." Scratch the surface of this lollipop and you’ll find a solid core of independence.
