Stubbs the Zombie: The Soundtrack
Shout
· I cant imagine this being good zombie-killin music, but the tunes are great nonetheless.
When the creators of Stubbs the Zombie needed music to go along with the 50s setting of their video game, they asked a bunch of indie rockers to cover some classic songs. So as travelling-salesman-turned-zombie Stubbs lumbers across your TV screen, you get to hear Death Cab for Cutie cover "Earth Angel," Ben Kweller rework "Lollipop" and The Dandy Warhols tweak "All I Have to Do is Dream."
The Raveonettes take on "My Boyfriends Back" appeared on their last full-length and Cakes take on "Strangers in the Night" goes back a few years, but for the most part these are brand new tracks. The Flaming Lips version of "If I Only Had a Brain" is almost too odd (plus it comes from the wrong era), but Rogue Waves leisurely jangle-pop version of Buddy Hollys "Everyday" is a total charmer. Soundtracks to video games are usually a total cash grab, but in the case of Stubbs The Zombie, even if the songs dont pack the high-octane punch of the tunes from Grand Theft Auto, they are fun to listen to.
