JAMES TAYLOR MEMORIAL BENEFIT AND WAKE
Saturday, November 12
Shamrock Hotel

Blues musicians from Calgary and Edmonton will be gathering at the Shamrock Hotel to show their love and support for blues band The Twisters. Two of the band’s musicians were involved in a horrific car crash recently that took the life of bassist James Taylor and left the band’s drummer Matt Pease hospitalized with serious injuries.

The Twisters were 2003 Juno nominees and Canadian Independent Music Award winners. For almost a decade The Twisters were a fixture on the Western Canadian music scene and have earned a reputation as one of the country’s best blues bands.

Born in Vancouver and raised in Nanaimo B.C., Taylor was the product of an eclectic musical background with his roots all leaning to the blues. He contributed his stand-up bass stylings to such bands as Cousin Harley, The Pete Turland Band, The Du-Rite Aces, The Swinging Bachelors and many others. Taylor won a 2003 Maple Blues Award nomination for best blues bassist and his simple meat-and-potatoes approach was the cornerstone for The Twisters’ unique sound.

A wake to celebrate James Taylor’s life and to help raise funds to ease the financial burden for Taylor’s family and fellow band members will take place on November 12, with musicians from Calgary and Edmonton gathering to share the stage in a jam session. All blues fans are invited to attend.

For those who cannot attend the wake and want to make a contribution, donations can be made at any Royal Bank by writing a cheque to The Rebecca Taylor Trust Fund.
