Dale Chihuly and his world of glass
I usually tend to avoid stepping into galleries that primarily display glass. I feel that at any moment I will be compelled to tip something over. Glass under glass is something I have a problem connecting with, especially if the gallery is badly lit. Glass needs light and space to transform – no one understands this concept better than the master of glass himself, Dale Chihuly.

Chihuly has redefined glass. His breathtaking installations, awe-inspiring chandeliers and playful seaforms speak to the power of glass. His body of work at www.chihuly.com attests to his unique vision of glass realized in organic shapes. Larger installations, like Chihuly Over Venice, which include works by glassblowers from around the world assembled in Venice, seem almost impossible in size and detail.

The site is an excellent overview of Chihuly’s work, with videos on the creative process behind the installations, and listings of current exhibitions as well as temporary works, like "100,000 Pounds of Ice and Neon," created on the Tacoma Dome ice rink. There are books and videos available for purchase through Portland Press as well as prints and Studio Edition Glass works.
