AMERICAN MINOR
American Minor
Jive Records

· Proof that rock ’n’ roll didn’t die on Duane Allman’s motorcycle or aboard Lynryd Skynyrd’s plane in ’77.

From deep in rural West Virginia, American Minor has successfully resuscitated classic rock ’n’ roll without the use of modern medicine. While this quintet’s members aren’t old enough to have seen Zeppelin live or heard Jethro Tull’s Aqualung upon its release, the band’s influences have seemingly skipped a generation. American Minor’s self-titled debut is charged with that same adrenalin found lurking in your dusty collection of vinyl LPs. From the album’s opening power chord to its quasi acid-rock finish, the album promotes a lost breed of true rock. "Walk On," "Cheaters & Non-Believers" and "Don’t Jump the Gun" offer catchy guitar riffs mixed by Rob Schnapf (also responsible for albums by The Foo Fighters and The Vines). Robert McCutcheon’s compelling vocals, alongside Josh Knox’s cymbal-driven drumming, create undeniable coherence. Although the band has left West Virginia, they remain true to their roots, offering "Buffalo Creek," about a 1972 tragedy in the state John Denver found so endearing.  While American Minor may never write the next "Freebird," the album is certainly a step in the right direction.
