| The weekend of September 17and 18 brings the 22nd annual Artwalk. The venerable visual arts event offers Calgarians an opportunity to stroll through some local galleries in an atmosphere intended to welcome those who might not normally check out the citys art scene.
Many times, people who appreciate fine art only go to check out galleries while they are on vacation or visiting other places," says Lorraine Webster, Artwalk organizer and owner of Webster Galleries. "The thing I think is great about Artwalk is that it encourages the interested public to discover the fantastic work that is available in their own backyard."
Although Artwalks profile has suffered since it broke away from Artcity, it is still popular, especially when the sun is shining.
"This annual weekend event is free for everyone, and is especially good for aspiring artists, students and the appreciating public," says Webster. "It is an opportunity for people to visit galleries as a group and they can look around without feeling pressure to buy or feel embarrassed asking questions."
