Falconhawk deserves sympathy and respect
Re: "The 411 on what’s wrong with your music column," by Jenelle Kitto, Letters, August 11-17, 2005

I cannot believe a local band is criticized by a Calgary scenester following an article about them being in a serious accident. As mentioned by Leslie Birdfly, Falconhawk were in a major vehicle collision in Arizona in which their van was totalled at the expense of their Calgary record company and themselves. Thank God they were not seriously injured, but they are said to be still physically hurt from the trauma. Despite this, the band still has the tenacity to be in Eastern Canada immediately following their accident to still try to promote their latest album.

Jenelle says she has been around the Calgary music scene for a long time now. I wonder if she knows what it's like to be in the Canadian music scene like Falconhawk – touring across the Canada and the U.S. for next-to-nothing pay, sleeping on floors and in vans, unloading equipment at 3 a.m., and all the other glamorous parts of being an indie band. Whether you like their music or not, "poor" Falconhawk deserves both sympathy for their tragic experience and respect for their drive to continue on.
