Free your mind and return to the Westside
In Jeremy Klaszus’s article about megachurches, community member Richard Puckridge says of Westside King’s Church: "There is nothing we'd like to see more than a beautiful traditional-style church with a 150-foot steeple." The writer adds that "megachurches are typically far from traditional, and not exactly esthetically pleasing."

Now that is funny. I drove past Westside King’s Church area today and what I did see was certainly not esthetically pleasing. All I saw was the incessant march of sameness – same shingles, same plaster, stucco, brick, stone mix – just like every other cosmetically boring, fucked-up suburb. Same, same double shame, and as if we could build a 150-foot steeple without some of the narrow-minded, bigoted, boring folks who live in the area complaining because of height restrictions.

The writer also notes that "plans for the new campus have been continually evolving and changing."

Any guess why that is? And why did you not explain that to your readers? Because those in the know at church have been brainstorming these plans for a long time – changing the plans to better fit the neighbourhood and not to piss anyone off, which it obviously shall.

This is what I think: free your mind brother, and come back to Westside, but do so on a Sunday morning at 11 a.m. and you tell us, after wiggling through a 36-inch wide door with 4,000 others, why we need a better space.
