MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK
Commit This to Memory
Epitaph
· Feel-good pop perfection produced by Mark Hoppus (head cheeseball from Blink-182).
Judging from the thoughtful quality of power chords scattered in every corner of this album (likely to keep even the worst case of ADD at bay), Motion City Soundtrack have covered all bases to make a hit record. Incredible vocals: check. Sardonic yet relevant lyrics: check. Compelling song resolutions: check (and bonus marks). Appeal for anyone with a fondness for hooks: check, check, check.
With Mark Hoppus operating the soundboard, MCSs pop-punk leanings are going to land them sticky comparisons to Blink-182 and Simple Plan. Refrain from pouting that they all sound alike. Usually they do, but this time MCS will make fans out of those standing outside the genre who huff at its very existence.
These days its tough to tell where talent stops and Pro Tools begin, but if this five-piece is as sensational live as they are on record, theyll be the victors of the Warped Tour and accomplish youth domination by mid-summer.
