AUDIOSLAVE
Out of Exile
Epic/Interscope

· Audioslave recently became the first American band to play an outdoor concert in Cuba.

When I heard Audioslave’s debut album in 2002, I couldn’t help but hold them up to the near-impossible standards of the members’ "other" bands. Those inevitable comparisons will probably never go away, but that’s OK because they easily met those standards and continue to prove they aren’t just the sum of their parts.

Out of Exile is a solid rock album with Chris Cornell’s emotional storytelling going note for note against Tom Morello and the band’s raging musical force. True artists grow, evolve and hopefully become something better, rather than clinging to some glory-days time warp. Mission accomplished – "Be Yourself" comfortably establishes itself as a classic immediately. They’re no longer just that guy from Soundgarden singing with those guys from Rage against the Machine – now they’re simply Audioslave.

4/5
