LUCINDA WILLIAMS
Live @ the Fillmore
Lost Highway
· Naked and alive, 20 or so tracks hand-picked by the lady herself.
Smooth roughness, rough smoothness, flat notes, round notes, polygonal notes, stripped-down, stripped-up, messed up and smoothed over here is the real Lucinda Williams in all her glory and frailty. For fans who have long admired her musical candour and lyrical phrasing, it all sounds deliciously alive.
The recordings were made over three nights in 2003, and its evident that there was no cleaning up or overdubbing of vocals or solos on tracks like "I Lost It," "World Without Tears" and "Those Three Days." Also, there are no guest-star gimmicks or inane stage banter just the singer, her musicians and a selection of songs that make this a natural best-of type album for longtime fans and a great introduction for newcomers.
