BRITT BLACK
Blackout
Her Royal Majesty’s Records

· Britt Black… Blackout… oh, I get it.

The hard rockin’ frontwoman from Live on Release has a new full-on, flat-out solo project complete with tight black T-shirts, hot licks and scruffy riffs. Britt Black certainly has a good voice for the material, but here, as in her former incarnation, her lyrics are a little lacking. Whether she is cribbing Oasis ("Definitely Maybe") or looping words back on themselves ("I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired"), the results are immature. If that weren’t enough, in a move of utter sacrilege, she covers The Cult’s "She Sells Sanctuary." Sure, she does it without irony, but that doesn’t make it right.
