THE PERCEPTIONISTS
Black Dialogue
Definitive Jux

· Not even a fair fight.

In this corner, the Hollywood heavyweight of the world, back from hiatus, weighing in a little light (even for him), Will "Fresh Prince" Smith. And in the other corner, triple-threat Boston underdogs, The Perceptionists.

The Prince comes out swinging strong, sampling old Spiderman episodes (hey, it worked for MF Doom), but now he’s just dancing around the ring with standard self-aggrandizing MC bullshit. The Perceptionists counter with fatter beats and a tight three-way tag team. Smith tries to downplay his film career by name-checking his movies, but it’s no good – Akrobatik, Mr. Lif and DJ Fakts One get their groove on and start working circles around Big Willie.

In a desperate play for audience approval Will tries checking his cred, but trips himself up, sounding like Eminem and Lou Bega. Big Willie looks back to his corner for help and trots out Snoop Dogg and Mary J. Blige to back him up. But, what’s this? Humpty Hump from the Digital Underground hops the ropes to join The Perceptionists. Oh no, Smith is being pummelled with rhymes and he is going down. He tries one last ditch effort to stay in the fight – a sensitive 9-11 jam. Ouch. The Perceptionists counter with "Memorial Day," and with that sock it not only to Willie, but to George W. Bush, Condoleeza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld and Tom Ridge.

The winner in one round by technical knockout – The Perceptionists. I’m tellin’ ya folks, it wasn’t even close.
