· Rufus’s kid sister antes up.

If Tammy Wynette sat down to write a single today, it sure wouldn’t be "Stand By Your Man." If she was living in 2005 instead of 1975, she might have put up with a little less crap from George and ended up with something a little more like Wainwright’s debut single, "Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole." Wailing with some of the same raw intensity of country legends Wynette, Dolly Parton and Dusty Springfield after a hard night spent drinking and smoking, Wainwright practically chokes out her painful pleas to "not pretend, I will not put on a smile, I will not say I’m alright for you, when all I wanted was to be good."

In her stunningly beautiful and raw self-titled full-length debut, Wainwright defies categorization by moving effortlessly between songs. She is softly melodic on "Far Away," seductively girlish on "GPT" and achingly pissed off on her pointedly titled debut single, all with a hip and modern edge. Despite the fact that she is music royalty as the daughter of Louden Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle and sister of Rufus Wainwright she doesn’t trade on their name – her music is that good.
