NQ ARBUCKLE
The Last Supper in a Cheap Town
Six Shooter

· A followup from the man that everyone wants to work with.

When musicians like Blue Rodeo and Rufus Wainwright go out of their way to assist a band like NQ Arbuckle it usually means only one thing. Your attention is required. This hunch is confirmed when you learn that some of these very same musicians dodged other commitments in order to appear on the project. I haven’t been this impressed by a new Canadian band since I first heard The Grievous Angels and Jr. Gone Wild. While NQ Arbuckle is, admittedly, more country than either of the two aforementioned bands ever were, all three are alike in one important way. Neville Quinlan (NQ) is a talented songwriter possessed of the same untamed spirit that weaved its way through the works of Chuck Angus and Mike MacDonald. His songs grab you with their catchy melodies and intelligent and honest phrasing, but it is his voice that you remember most. That unique, gravelly voice that is at once like that of every alt-country musician you have ever heard and, at the same time, like that of no one in particular. Maybe that’s why he’s so popular. Whatever the reason, it is well deserved.
