| Re: "Defending the borders from what?" by Jeremy Klaszus, Viewpoint, March 24 - 30, 2005.
Mr. Klaszus implies that we in America should welcome illegal immigrants. Is that your policy in Canada? This Mr. Klaszus should do some research into the burden these illegal aliens put on the American people, both in added law enforcement expenses and the drain on social programs. As undocumented workers, they do not pay taxes to replenish the funds that are spent on them, forcing those of us who are law-abiding citizens to make up the difference.
He suggests that in some way these people are noble in their desire to illegally enter our country, but the fact is that merely by entering the U.S. they are committing a crime, by taking a job without a work visa they are committing a crime, by using false papers to obtain drivers licences they are committing a crime
etc. Some go further by actually committing serious crimes like dealing drugs, rape, robbery and murder.
Perhaps Mr. Klaszus should spend some time living in a U.S. city near the Mexican border so he will be able to gain some real perspective on the issues here, and the people he condemns as "racist" and "extremists." If he still feels that these illegal aliens are victims of discrimination, perhaps he could smuggle them into Canada with him on his return.
