CLANNAD
Live in Concert

· A touch o the green!
Just in time to get you warmed up for St. Paddys Day and the upcoming folk music festival season, the families who make up the Irish band Clannad have come together to present a live rendition of some of their most famous tunes. Looking back over three decades of Celtic fusion, siblings Moya (Maire) and Ciaran Brennan and their twin uncles Padraig and Noel Duggan have mined their vast songbook for the beautiful and reflective tracks that grace this second live release. Known for melding traditional British folk, Celtic New Age, rock, jazz, ambient and world music styles with exceptional skill, Clannad use their latest album to showcase performances from their 1996 European tour. Opening with a crystal-clear version of their classic "Newgrange," which first appeared on Magical Ring back in 1983, Live in Concert attempts (somewhat successfully) to encompass the span of the bands career by featuring both traditional and original pieces of the groups mystical musicianship. The highlight of this intimate yet celebratory compilation is the seven-part suite "Robin of Sherwood Medley," written as a soundtrack for an Irish TV series, which is fully fleshed out at a running time of 11-plus minutes complete with plenty of guest performers and, of course, Moyas utterly beguiling vocals.
