| I don't understand why all these people put so much emphasis on dancing, as if that was the be all and end all of going to see live music.
I'm a native Calgarian who grew up at live gigs and sometimes I dance but usually I don't. The main reason I go to see a band is to feel the music, hear the music, engage my senses in the performance. And for me to concentrate on dancing often takes away from the experience. Perhaps some of you out there enjoy music by shaking your ass you have to stop assuming that those of us who dont are less involved in the performance than thou.
Its not because I'm uptight, self-conscious or the like, its because thats the way my senses work. People at many times have pulled me up to the dancefloor and I can't even say that I didn't enjoy it I do enjoy dancing, but when that happens I move into a different mode and it doesn't matter anymore that the band is playing. I may as well be in my living room with the stereo cranked.
If you were to find me dancing, its at a time when I'm not so engaged in what the band is playing and so I'm attempting to occupy myself in a different manner. I tend to dance a lot to cover bands because I already know what comes next, so why pay attention?
I think you people who are going to shows to assess the audience's danceability should show some respect to the band and stop occupying their stage time thinking about what everyone else is doing and enjoy the music yourself.
