JENNIFER LOPEZ
Rebirth
Epic
· Wisely, there are no photos of J. Lo with Marc Anthony in the liner notes.
So, if shes been reborn, is she still Jenny from the block? Unfortunately, she doesnt sound like it. Given the title, Rebirth, I wanted something darker or more pensive than previous releases some evidence of growth as a human and an artist. Instead, this album is pretty much what you would expect from a contemporary R and B hitmaker a few good songs floating in a sea of uninspired filler. There is the noteworthy slow jam "I, Love" and "Whatever You Wanna Do," which incorporates some samples and lyrics from The Nite-liters track "Con-Fink-Shun," but its the single "Get Right" (the only real hooky bait on the album) that will be belted out by fans in danceclubs, cars and karaoke bars everywhere.
On previous releases, her catchy numbers championed who she was and where she was from. On Rebirth, our girl J. to tha Lo just doesnt sound happy when she sings. Too bad.
