THE FRAMES
Burn the Maps
ANTI
· Following the release of last years stellar live album, The Frames drop their first domestic release.
With an ardent fan base, The Frames have managed to release several EPs and full-lengths in their native Ireland without making so much as a blip on the North American music radar. Despite the fact that this four-piece have a violin player in their midst, dont assume they are another band blending rock and reels. Instead, they tap into the indie rock vein using the violin to add an epic, romantic quality that raises the stakes on almost every song. They can plod through a song like Slint, rip through four-note solos like The Pixies and swirl feedback around you like Sonic Youth, while never sounding exactly like any of those bands.
Using the ever popular loud-quiet-loud song structure, frontman Glen Hansard can sing you a lullaby and scream his lungs out (often on the same track), while guitars keep it simple and interesting. Ultimately, this band is all about emotion and even though they bear no resemblance to the posse of weepy emo kids, the music would appeal to them, too. By blending so many great elements so seamlessly together, Burn the Maps shows us what hipsters in Ireland knew all along The Frames are talented, intuitive and refreshing.
