THE DEVLINS
Waves
Rubyworks

· Everything comes around.

Boasting the Devlin brothers’ signature brogue-tinged harmonies and headstrong acoustic melodies, Waves epitomizes the Irish alt-rock sound Colin and Peter have become somewhat famous for. But please, don’t compare them to U2, or worse, The Proclaimers (yes, I know they’re Scottish).

Marking their fourth release on as many record labels, Waves offers 10 handcrafted tracks of finely tuned, atmospheric pop, including such winning tracks as "Sunrise," "Lazarus" and "Feel It When You’re Gone." The daunting task of topping Consent, their gold-selling release of two years past, has given The Devlins good reason to pause and carefully contemplate their next move. Perhaps abandoning their futile attempts to stir up interest in the U.S. rock market and focusing on the emerald pastures of County Cork was the best move this band ever made. Fuelled by their passion for new and innovative production methods, the lads outdo themselves on Waves. Layering basic rhythms with increasingly intricate instrumentation and an overriding backwash of electronic tones and swirling guitars, they evoke a feeling of live performance captured on tape, as opposed to that of a hyper-polished studio masterpiece.
