| Re: Blowing blasts of static: White Noise looks for answers to life after death, but why does it bother?" by Rachel Deahl, Film, Jan. 6-12, 2005
I saw White Noise this weekend and then read two dumb-shit reviews of the film in Calgary newspapers. The worst, and stupidest, came from Fast Forward.
Rachel Deahl should be thrown in front of a truck full of turnips for her drivel. It almost reminds me of when Roger Ebert criticized The Ring and lamented that he had no idea who was making the phone calls.
Deahl writes, rather cryptically, "...the loose ends that are tied up aren't resolved convincingly." I dunno.
Myself and my wife, plus my 12-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter understood perfectly. This is one of those rare films that assumes the audience has an IQ higher than that of a Cheese Doodle. The filmmakers don't spell out every little thing, allowing the viewers to piece things together for themselves à la The Ring and The Grudge.
So, Deahl didn't understand... perhaps she shouldn't be writing movie reviews.
And why didn't she extol the Canadian-ness of this fine production? It's one of the better films we've produced.
I shouldn't have expected an intelligent review... elsewhere in the same edition, another reviewer called Troy a "history" film. Oops.
