| Re: "Dealing in horse flesh: Unbeknownst to many, Calgary is an international source of equine meat," by Wes Lafortune, City, Jan. 6-12, 2005
I was shocked to read that The Responsible Animal Care Society (TRACS) wants to introduce a bill to prevent the slaughter of horses in Canada.
I am all for proper care of animals, and when I eat meat, I try to source organic free-range product. I would understand and support TRACS if they were pushing for heavier fines against mistreatment of animals.
If the problem is mistreatment of animals, then this should be addressed properly, but it seems that TRACS is confused about their own goal. Do they want "responsible care for all animals," or do they want to protect their pet animals? Why ban the slaughter of horses rather than goats, sheep, chickens or even cows ?
