RAMMSTEIN
Reise, Reise
Universal

· Einsadvise Notboughten!

Rammstein are named for a battering ram made of stone and the location of an American air-show tragedy in East Germany, and blunt force trauma has always been their preferred method of delivery. Descending even further into the depths of self-mockery than originally thought possible, these factory-weary proletarians have come forth with their latest work of musical theatre Reise, Reise. You may have already seen the oddly amusing video for the album’s sixth track, "Amerika," which depicts the lads bouncing around on the moon in spacesuits (chest hair protruding from the collars) singing in English, "We’re all living in Amerika. Amerika. It’s wunderbar." The lyrics then mercifully switch back to their native German tongue, as African tribesmen dine on pizza from red, white and blue boxes, and saffron-robed Buddhist monks chow down on Big Macs. Intentionally or not, the campy novelty of "Amerika" outstrips the album’s first single "Mein Teil" and overshadows the other nine tracks. We waited three years for this?!
