On the outside, looking in
The United Congress, provocateurs and purveyors of toothsome objects (both edible and inedible), will host a grand re-opening of their newly dubbed space DONKEY, at 924 - 17th Avenue S.W., on Wednesday, November 10 at 7 p.m. Formerly known as Comme des Congres (named for Rei Kawakubo's fashion powerhaus), the gallery first opened in 1999 and has since hosted top-notch exhibitions by the Congress, and guest curators and artists.

This inconspicuous space, next to Anne Patterson's and across the street from Purr, has garnered significant attention considering its dimensions are smaller than an average toilet stall – in this case, however, it has wood veneer floors and a window. Don't expect to actually enter the gallery; it is viewed from outdoors.

Current Congress personnel (membership changes as often as your heartthrob's underpants) are disarmingly contained, genteel, esthetic drill sergeants. Don't let their black uniforms scare you off. Rest assured, the United Congress will have cake and cookie service for guests, and regardless of the weather that night, the work is certain to be dead-hot.
