Movie websites provide helpful clues for your DVD ‘egg’ hunt
After purchasing the final season of Futurama last week, my partner and I settled in for some good viewing. Our excitement over this was heightened by my insistence that there were DVD "Easter eggs" embedded on every episode menu. For those not up on their DVD geek lingo, "Easter eggs" in DVDs involve hidden features accessed by pressing a certain sequence of commands on your remote using a given menu. They can include yearbook photos of the creators, gag reels, interviews and general coolness for the DVD junkie. Most of the time I’m not co-ordinated enough to toggle my way through the process, so I prefer to reap the fruits of someone else’s labour.

At dvdangle.com, you’ll find a few annoying pop-up ads and a comprehensive list of "Easter eggs" from old and new films including Citizen Kane and Jeepers Creepers. Not the best site but may include a few gems you’ve been missing.

dvdreview.com reveals some excellent "Easter eggs" in its hidden features section. In addition to a solid list of mainstream cinema, you’ll find more cult and foreign film selections such as Quadrophenia and In the Mood For Love. Trekkies can celebrate the sizable Star Trek eggs selection.

One of the better sites for "Easter eggs" can be found at dvdtalk.com. With nine pages of film, television, music DVDs and even a porno or two, there’s bound to be a secret you haven’t seen yet. Looking for the gag reel in The Ring? Mock biographies for the characters in Boogie Nights? Storyboards of the alternate ending for Freddy vs. Jason? It’s all here, complete with a handy search menu for locating specific films.

Happy hunting.
