Brew Brothers pub is hosting a fundraiser for Médecins Sans Frontières work in Darfur, Sudan on Wednesday, September 29 at 8 p.m.
Sudanese band Kojo, musician Chantal Vitalis, actors Denise Clarke and Ryan Luhning, filmmaker Cheryl Foggo and Fast Forward columnist Harry Vandervlist will be among the featured performers. The event includes music as well as the presentation of a satirical play based on United Nations meetings held to try and resolve the crisis in Darfur. Forum highlights elder abuse
Families Allied to Influence Responsible Eldercare (FAIRE) is holding a public forum to raise awareness about the abuse and neglect seniors suffer in Albertas long-term-care system.
The not-for-profit organization is asking Calgarians to come out and demand government action to address the issue. The event will happen at McDougall Centre on Saturday, September 25 at 1 p.m. For more information, call FAIRE founder and president Bev McKay at 932-5557.
Hed: Historic buildings open to public
More than 30 historic buildings will be open to the general public to check out on Saturday and Sunday, September 25 and 26, as part of the citys Architecture Week.

Lectures, lectures, lectures
Mohamed Elmasry, national president of the Canadian Islamic Congress, will be giving a lecture on "The Americanization of Islam" at the University of Calgary on Thursday, September 23.
Elmasry, who is also a professor of computer engineering at the University of Waterloo and a regular newspaper columnist and political commentator, will explore whether peace is possible between the Islamic and Western world.
After the lecture there will be a panel discussion called "Islam and the West: Is Peace Possible?" Panelists will include Monia Masigh, federal NDP candidate in the previous federal election; Roman Catholic Bishop Fred Henry; David Bercuson, the director of the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary; and Gavin Cameron, assistant professor of political science at the U of C.

Also on September 23, Robert Reich, former U.S. secretary of labour in the Clinton administration and now a professor at Brandeis University, will speak about the widening gap in North America between the rich and the poor. He will also discuss the impacts of globalization and technology on labour markets and will examine ways society can reduce the wage gap between countries.
The lecture takes place at the Metropolitan Centre at 7:30 p.m.
The Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy at the University of Calgary is hosting a lecture on climate change entitled "Climate Change: When No Policy is Good Enough and No Policy is Worst of All" on September 30.
University of British Columbia professor Hadi Dowlatabadi, who holds the Canada research chair in applied mathematics, integrated assessment and global change, will look at what we currently understand about climate change and its impact. He will also explore how Canada can be better prepared to deal with the looming problem.
