PO’ GIRL
Vagabond Lullabies
Netwerk

· Ani Difranco, Carolyn Mark, Rae Spoon, Kate Fenner, Chris Brown and Luther Wright are some of the personalities elbowing each other out of the way for a chance to turn up on this, the second Po’ Girls album.

The first thing you notice is that the cool, edgy style of drums-as-additive-to-melody that hooked you on the first album has been toned down into merely really solid drumming. The second thing that strikes you is that even the sad songs are spiked with joyful harmonies, and there’s something wistful and mirthfully alive in the music that makes you forget about whatever else you thought you were going to hear.

These 13 songs are like one of those how-are-you-feeling-today charts that have all the "happy" faces expressing different emotions like silly, horny, blissful and surly. And while the graceful melodies strive to anchor those emotions to the songs, sometimes they just seem to drift off somewhere vague anyway.
