Although Kilbourne only formed in February of this year, the all-woman rock trio has already got it together to put out a CD. That might not be a surprise, given that the ladies had been playing together in Honeyrocket for a while. Measure of Health is being released by Winnipeg-based hardcore label No List Records. The all-ages part of a two-stage CD release happens Friday, September 10 at the Alexandra Centre in Inglewood. Joining them on the bill which gets underway at 6:30 p.m. are Life At Last (also releasing a CD), Nikola Tesla, The Failure, Ten Second Epic and The Silent Auction. At six bands for $10, you should have enough cash left over to buy some of those new records!
Tootin their own horn er, pipe: Calgary Celt-punk group No Coast Hardcore have brought a new member into the fold. The three-year-old quintet has become a sextet with the addition of Aaron Taylor, who has honed his bagpiping skills with the University of Calgary Pipe Band (in which he still plays). Hell be showcased on Saturday, September 11, when NCH spend the day at the Underground, playing both an afternoon all-ages show and an evening 18-plus show dubbed Clash of the Tartans. Joining them will be Rumrunner (afternoon only), The Falling Pianos and Victorias The McGillicuddys.
Just a few weeks after the Western Canadian Music Awards hit Calgary (September 30 to October 3), our city will host another music conference. The Great White North Music Conference aims to help Canadian Christian artists at any stage of their career pursue their musical calling. The event will run Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23 at the New Campus of the Centre Street Church (3900 2nd Street N.E), and will feature a number of speakers and clinicians, including singer-songwriter Tom Jackson. Registration is $95 before the workshop and $125 at the door. For more information, call 275-5383 or visit www.greatwhitenorthmc.com.
