COHEED AND CAMBRIA
In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3
Equal Vision records, Columbia

· I just don’t know.

So, emo, screamo – I’m just not a huge fan. However, I am a fan of variance. Coheed and Cambria’s latest effort, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, is a mix of instrumental, emo, screamo and… yelling. You know kids, it’s hard. The disc as a whole is interesting in that it begins with the instrumental "The Ring In Return," and then launches into screamo tracks which combine emo, with, well, screaming. If you’re not a fan of screamo, this CD ain’t for you. The lyrics (that resemble poetry which might come from a Grade 8 student who draws pictures of futuristic industrial cities and daggers on the blackboard and signs it "Commander Star-Jackal" – does that make sense?) are freaky. However, if you don’t like the lyrics, but enjoy the music, never fear, for half the lyrics are sung, the other half are screamed – creating the effect of an album divided in half. Regardless of my taste, the CD is pretty diverse and fans of the genre might be surprised. However, if you don’t like emo, yeah… just walk away.
