When CanCon Rocked: Volume 1
Bullseye Records of Canada Inc.
· O Canada, this album’s really bad...

Attention: Bullseye Records.

Re: When CanCon Rocked.

More like when CanCon sucked.

More like when CanCon featured plenty of session men with exposed chest hair and farty bass lines. More like when CanCon meant live recordings of third-rate songs from Honeymoon Suite and Killer Dwarfs a dozen years past their prime. Oh, feel our collective national pride.

When you think of "Canada’s greatest pop and rock acts" (as the record label’s promotional material declares) from the past 35 years, what comes to mind? Well, lower your expectations. Lower... lower... keep going, past the Haywire. Ah... here we go. This is what Canada really wants as a tribute to its rock and roll heritage: Segarini, Hellfield, Harem Scarem, Lennex, the Wackers and the aforementioned 1995 live Honeymoon Suite.

No Rush. No Trooper. No Loverboy. Not even Gino Vanelli. Of course, this is only volume one. Maybe the quality acts (Rock & Hyde?) will make appearances on a future release. The promo sheet also informs us that, "Most of these artists are still touring." Yes, in finer lounges in Red Deer and Lloydminster and fairgrounds throughout the B.C. Interior.
