I can understand why many people both in and (many more) outside of the city limits are annoyed at the antics of these so-called bandwagon jumpers. And it's true that many of the thousands of fans on 17th Avenue after a win didn't own a single piece of Flames paraphernalia prior to their playoff berth. However, as a fan who has supported the Flames through good and bad, I take pride in the fact that almost everyone in the city is behind the team, regardless of when they jumped on the bandwagon. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that the Flames have essentially brought the entire city together as a family. Everywhere you go, the flaming C is present, and everybody is generally in a good mood. It shouldn't matter what the reason for celebration is, be it a Stanley Cup win, or a gold medal in the Olympics, as long as it brings us together as people. The amount of money raised for charities from the auctioning of Flames tickets is just one of many examples of how the city will benefit from this sport. So to all the party poopers bitching about every little annoyance and hiccup of bad judgment by a drunk fan, sit down, shut up and watch the damn game.
