| · To quote the man himself, "you get some hip-hop, jazz and turntables too."
Well, shit. A man of few words to be sure, but this is one instance where the music does speak for itself. Ubiquity Records have been barely able to contain themselves, gleefully raking in doting reviews for Greyboys latest. Rather than tracks slathered in hip-hop and samples that sound like theyre pilfered from a Quentin Tarantino soundtrack, Greyboy throws the whole soul-singer repertoire into the pot. Between the three guest vocalists, there are few tracks that dont feature the soulful offerings of Sharon Jones, Bing Ji Ling or Bart Davenport (formerly of The Kinetics). Each vocalist is so different each track ends up taking on a life of its own. What keeps the album together is the absolutely fat (or is it phat?) funky bass lines. Gotta love the 80s synth, too. I swear to God I hear Madonnas "Justify My Love" in the aptly titled track "Big Tito." Now thats cool.
