If youre cooling your heels in town next weekend, you can catch a whole truckload of local talent Friday, June 11 at the Carpenters Union Hall. In addition to being the Buzzing Bees CD release party for their second album, Beep! Beep! Im A Jeep!, the show marks The Failures first local show since January. Other acts include Mach Tiver (on their last ever visit to Calgary), Fake Cops, Kilbourne, Billy and the Lost Boys and Wolfnote. Doors open at 5 p.m. for a 5:30 all-ages show, and tickets are $10.
Local one-man crust-punk outfit UMMM is on tour in eastern Canada from May 22 to June 13. According to www.ummm.tk, the tour will mainly take place at open mics and in parking lots. Plans are underway for the sixth annual Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards, which will take place November 26 in Toronto. Awards will be handed out in more than 20 categories and nominations are now being accepted. Any musical artists of Canadian aboriginal status or non-status Metis or Inuit by birth, adoption or community acceptance are eligible for the awards.
