Calgary jazz fest has the Spirit
The folk festival is not alone in celebrating a 25-year milestone. The Calgary Jazz Festival recently announced the lineup for their silver anniversary edition that runs June 25 to July 4 at various venues throughout the city.

This year’s festival highlights include legendary sax man David Sandbourn, The Spirit Music Sextet featuring former member of hip-hop outfit Arrested Development Me’shell Ndegéocello and jazz-trio revisionists The Bad Plus. On the fringe of jazz expect great performances by Montreal fusion artists Bullfrog, indie-electronica trio Manitoba, and Tuscon, Arizona’s haunting millennial mariachis Calexico.

The year’s festival is broken into several venue-specific series to showcase different sonic and geographic demographics. The Coast to Coast series will highlight Canadian jazz artists while Jazz on the Wing brings artists from across the globe. Also expect a variety of local musicians to be showcased at the free outdoor jazz performances happening daily throughout the festival.
