| · Calling in the big guns. Social Code play Thursday, May 13 at MacEwan Hall.
Edmontonians Social Code sure go all out on their second full length. The thick guitars and heavy-hitting drums may sound exactly like every other hard rock band in the Top 40, but thats the point. By enlisting the help of Mark Trombino and Chris Lord-Alge two engineers who have mixed everyone from Blink 182 and Jimmy Eat World to Hole and P.O.D. Social Code make their play for big-time stardom. The boys pull out all the studio tricks (multi-tracked solos, heavy-duty wah pedal action) and there is no question that, for the genre, A Year at the Movies sounds great. When they slow it down and haul out the acoustic guitars for the inevitable power ballad you can almost see the movie that their music will no doubt be licensed for. Despite Travis Nesbits emotional howling the album is a bit limp (Bizkit), but fans of anthem-ready radio rock will eat it up.
